Experience with 162X

I grew a dozen 162X F2 plants inside under lights this winter. It sounded so exciting:

hybrid of 2 micros, 138 X 93 138 = 33 X Pinnochio Orange [33 = MMF x (Tidy x Porkchop)] 93 = 80 X (Beauty King X Indigo) X GWR Wild Thyne 80 = 45 X 35 45 = MMF X Slvery Fir Tree, 35 = MMF X ((Beauty King X Indigo) X GWR Wild Thyne

I had great hopes for interesting, tasty tomatoes. I just ate the first and it was awful. I have never eaten an awful tomato before. This was acrid. I quickly ate a piece of apple to get the tomato taste out of my mouth.

I wonder which of the grandparents contributed that taste.

Hi Diane, that is really unfortunate. I wonder if all of them will taste that bad? I would presume no, given you are working with F2s. If you have consistent poor taste, it might be worthwhile to just abandon this one.

Also, I moved this to its own topic to keep the "about" post clean and focused to only information on the cross. If you continue to see this pattern, I will reply to/update that post and reference this one.
